Jarndiere’s and Meatballs
The Strangest Combo: Meatballs & Planters
Every time I stop by my parents’ house, they send me off with the strangest combination of things. They are getting ready for their big move to North Carolina. Yesterday’s haul? Six jardinières (yes, I still don’t know how to pronounce it) and a fresh batch of homemade meatballs and sauce.
So I loaded up the car with pots and sauce and headed to Home Depot to grab some plants for my new “beautiful jardinières.”
From Anti-Gardener to Home Depot Survivor
Now, I know how much my mom loves to plant, but unlike her, I don’t have a green thumb. I’m the anti-gardener. Honestly, with my ADD, I was shocked I even made it to Home Depot, let alone finished the project.
Also, can we talk about how there was literally no one to help me there? I winged the entire thing. No clue how often to water, what tools to use, or whether my plant picks made any sense. I just grabbed whatever spoke to me and tossed it in the cart.
Saturday Therapy in the Dirt
This morning, after yoga, I decided I wouldn’t waste a minute, I was planting those jardinières. The sun was out, and I didn’t want to slip into a Saturday morning bed funk. So I strapped on my favorite SPF and got to work.
To my surprise, it was actually… therapeutic. My mind cleared for a moment. My only thoughts were about pairing flowers, trying (and failing) to follow YouTube’s “thriller-filler-spiller” rule. Spoiler alert: I did not nail it. But the outcome? Pretty damn good, if I say so myself.
Cue the Florida Thunderstorm
Of course, right as I was wrapping up, Florida did its Florida thing—rain, thunder, lightning, the whole shebang.
But honestly? It was still worth it.
To quote Joe Dirt (yes, Joe Dirt): “Life’s a garden, dig it.”
