Procrastination Nation: A Four Hour Journey
There’s a girl on TikTok who does this series called “How long it actually takes” for things she’s been procrastinating on. Relatable, right? With all my downtime lately, I figured it was time to tackle one of those projects I’d been putting off forever… and my fridge was practically screaming for a makeover.
The Best Part: Ordering Organizers
Confession: when you have ADHD/ADD, you get high hopes about “getting organized.” For me, that means obsessively stockpiling clear lucite organizers. My husband rolls his eyes, but this time I finally put them to use.
Here’s what I ordered:
The Timeline of a “Quick” Job
- 6:00 pm: I start strong.
- 6:14 pm: Wine break (obviously).
- 7:38 pm: Halfway through. Tempted to leave everything on the counter and “soak the drawers.” Instead, I had dinner and watched The Mets. My husband mansplained something about Ed Krainepool and why the Mets are all wearing the Number 7.
- 8:20 pm: Back at it. Needed this win.
- 9:59 pm: Done. Four hours later, my fridge was sparkling, and I felt amazing.
The Aftermath
That sense of accomplishment had me on a high, until it backfired. I couldn’t fall asleep until 3am, tossing and turning with Mr. Snuffleupagus (and my brain), while tearing through another Freida McFadden thriller.
Books I devoured this month:
Her books are like chips. You can’t stop at just one.
The Bigger Picture
In between fridge cleans and book binges, I’ve applied for 31 jobs so far. It’s exhausting. I keep telling myself it’s late summer, so maybe companies aren’t hiring. But still, when you’re searching, and not being searched for, it’s rough.
This weekend, we’re hosting for Labor Day. I don’t technically labor… unless you count four hours of fridge cleaning as labor (I do).
One thing I know for sure: no matter where life takes me, I’ll keep giving it 100 percent. Sometimes the wins are small, but they matter. Even if it’s just a clean fridge. xo
@missypoo586 It’s a one minute video but actually a 4 hour job because your ADD said “let’s reorganize the fridge” #adhd #procrastination
